DIY Skateparks Torn Down, Sad News out of Oakland

It is technically old news in Web 2.0 terms, but this year two unauthorized, skater-built skateparks were destroyed in Oakland by Caltran, the city’s infrastructure maintenance organization. The parks were built by young guys who wanted great places to skate. Unfortunately, they poured concrete on land that they didn’t own and weren’t legally allowed to operate a recreation site on. It’s a sad day, but they’ll probably just build more, and they’ll surely be skating in the streets and pissing off the city council for the next few years.
